JJ Barnett
Like many young coaches, JJ is passionate about baseball. However, the twists and turns of his particular baseball journey have given him a unique perspective on the game and on growing athletes. As a result, his student-athletes will benefit from a knowledgeable, caring, and professional coach.
He grew up playing travel baseball under Orlando Cepeda’s son, Ali Cepeda, including playing for Team USA in the Dominican Republic. Having played at the highest levels and having great success during his youth, JJ committed to St. Mary’s College after a stellar freshman season in high school. Unfortunately, his sophomore campaign started off with a fully ruptured Ulnar Collateral Ligament that required the infamous Tommy John surgery when he was just 15. JJ was determined to come back from the surgery, finish out his high school career, and play at St. Mary’s. After two years of intense rehab, JJ ran into other physical roadblocks and never fully recovered. A few years later, JJ became the head junior varsity baseball coach at his alma mater, American Canyon High School, where he coached for three years. In those three years, JJ has furthered his education in the game by becoming a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association, attending ABCA conventions and clinics, and networking with high-level coaches and trainers. Although he didn’t play there, JJ graduated from St. Mary’s with a degree in finance.
The result of this journey is a coach who is well-versed in the following ways:
JJ has a very good understanding of the opportunities, pressures, and costs of youth baseball.
JJ has outstanding knowledge about arm care, including conditioning, stretching, strengthening, maintaining, and resting to achieve maximum production with minimal risk.
JJ understands the competitive nature of high school baseball, including the recruiting world.
JJ is not just a trainer but also actively coaches and will be able to show his students how drills and concepts apply to in-game improvement.
The trials and tribulations of Barnett’s baseball experience has put him in a position to hand off his extraordinarily diverse baseball knowledge to the next generation.
